Despite his intense workload, he continually shows his smiling face and outgoing personality up in Mammoth as one of the regulars on the team.

Bardia is originally from Iran and grew up loving the outdoors. He got into skiing when he was 7 and switched to boarding about 8 years ago and hasn't looked back. Aside from snowboarding as much as he can, Bardia loves to hike and camp. If you ask what Bardia has been up to recently he'll probably tell you about bungee jumping, traversing the Grand Canyon, or camping in Joshua Tree (thanks Facebook).

Putting his expertise of electrical systems to good use, Bardia offered to help rewire our ancient built-in-house speaker system last New Year's Eve. Equipped with his headlamp and a few screw drivers Bardia got to work. After everything was up and running Bardia kept happily assuring us that "everything is perfectly normal and okay!" whenever we'd question the strange burning plastic smells coming from all of the wall sockets.

Bardia, thanks for the great times and we're glad you're back for another few years!

--

If you have a picture/profile you want to share send me an email at AbeKislevitz@gmail.com and it could get featured on this site!

Photo & Profile of the Week

Fashion Guru & Photographer Extraordinaire is Spotted on the Slopes - March 2008

Nelson De Castro, former snowboard captain and Mustache March participant, is seen here doing just a few of the many things he's mastered thus far in his life. In this case it's snowboarding and photography. Equipped with his new Canon 40D, Kevin Chang's O'Neill retro glasses, Chris Farro's asparagus beanie, and his tall-t, Nelson embodied all that is awesome in this wild generation.

Nelson showed up in Mammoth just about every weekend over the past two years while attending USC. If you're on the team there's no doubt that you know him. Mammoth started out pretty slow this year snow-wise, but it's been dumping just in time for winter break. We're sitting ontop of a nice 4-6 foot base now with the entire mountain open!

Over the past few months we've gone through quite a lot. Aside from being in Mammoth every weekend since opening, we've had meetings, held a booth at homecoming, and put on a huge campus event - SnowFEST!

Homecoming is always our yearly fundraising opportunity and a way to meet up with past-team alumni. This past November we printed up our classic team logo on USC cardinal shirts, and sold over 120 of them. Thanks to all those that helped out, stopped by, or purchased ski team apparel!

Snowfest went off on November 14th without a hitch. For an event that was largely thought up on a whim between Mammoth Mountain and our team, the event went exceptionally well and gave the USC community an opportunity to experience a taste of Mammoth right in downtown LA. Hundreds of unexpecting students stopped by to snap pictures, throw snowballs, or sled down the hill. The event filled McCarthy quad with a snow hill, rails, and sponsor tents. Thanks to all the sponsors that came out to make the day exciting for everyone - Dragon, Nikita, Active, Skull Candy, Mammoth, Quicksilver.

We're excited to get another event of this nature going for next year so stay tuned!

We hope everyone is having great holidays and we'll see everyone up in Mammoth over the New Years for our first race!

Photos - Kristen Kamei

Snowfest!

November 14th, USC Ski & Snowboard Team and Mammoth Mountain are bringing snow to the USC Campus.

The idea behind the event is to give the entire USC community an opportunity to see first hand what the Ski & Snowboard Team does on a weekly basis without traveling the 300 miles to Mammoth.

The event is open to anyone, and will run all day long in McCarthy Quad. I might just take a drive up the Angeles Crest Hwy until I find snow.

Dues Deadline

First and foremost:
PAY DUES HERE

*****THE MEETING THIS WEEK HAS BEEN CHANGED TO WEDNESDAY 9/19. Same time, same place*****

The deadline to pay dues will be the next team meeting, Wednesday 9/19. The meeting will be the same time 8pm, but inside the Cardinal room at the Lyon center.

After that meeting an additional late fee will be added to anyone who wants to join (before membership is capped). Please print out all the required forms, and bring them to the meeting with you. We will send out links to the USCSA form before the meeting. For those of you who ordered T-shirts with dues, we will bring the shirts to the meeting so you can pick them up at that time.

For dues structure see the previous post. There is no need to repeat the information. This post is going to be a quick summary of what it takes to join the team, and what benefits you get by joining.

Team Summary:

We primarily to go skiing and snowboarding as much as possible while being students at USC. The team makes it easy to get out of Los Angeles and enjoy the outdoors and have as much fun as possible in the process.

By paying housing dues, you get access to a house in Mammoth any weekend, holiday or school break. Based on anticipated crowds, the team may book extra condos near the house to provide additional sleeping space - WE DO NOT RESTRICT THE AMOUNT OF TEAM MEMBERS GOING UP ANY WEEKEND. You can go up ANY weekend you want.

Because this is a team, we participate in competitions with other schools from around Southern California. Skiers and Snowboarders can compete in Giant Slalom, Boarder/Skiercross, Half-Pipe and Slopestyle competitions. Skiers may also compete in Slalom.

Competition is NOT REQUIRED, but we highly recommend it for everyone. It is a lot of fun, and is very relaxed. If you desire greater competition at a higher level, you can advance to regional and national competitions. Registering for competition is an extra $50, but it grants you entry in any race/competition you would like. You also receive a $15 gas card for each race weekend you participate in a competition.

Being a member on the team, you are eligible for all sorts of generous discounts. We get pro-deals, which allow you to purchase pretty much any gear for about half of retail price. We also get about half off lift tickets at Mammoth on race weekends, many of which are during holiday periods that normally have no discounts available. We also get discounts on season passes.

Logistics:

-Carpools

We get you to Mammoth the cheapest and best way possible. We will arrange carpools so you can go up WHENEVER you want, even if you don't have a car. It is ~5 hour drive to Mammoth, so you will get to know the people in your carpool pretty well. So even if you come up not knowing anybody, by the time you make it to Mammoth, you will at least know the people you drove with.

-Sleeping

Our house is fairly large, and will comfortably sleep about 15 people. It is 4 bedrooms + loft, with a large common area downstairs. You should bring a sleeping bag when you come up. Air mattresses are also recommended, although by no means required. Beds are first-come, first-served, so the earlier you get up there, the more likely you will have prime sleeping arrangements.

- Passes/Skiing/Tickets

Mammoth tickets will be $79 per day this year. Yeah... it sucks. The good news is there are a lot of different options to avoid paying full price.

June mountain has a college season pass for $125. June is Mammoth's sister mountain, and is about 20 minutes north of Mammoth. It doesn't get quite as much snow, and it is significantly smaller than Mammoth, but it is NEVER CROWDED and has a sick terrain park. Last year, they only opened for about a week, and because of that, all the June passes were turned into Mammoth passes. There are almost always people from the team driving to June, or willing to go there. Mammoth tickets and passes are valid there.--- www.junemountain.com

If you still want to ride Mammoth, there are options to avoid paying full price. New this year is a college frequency card. It is free, as long as you 'buy' it 3 days in advance on the Mammoth website. It will get you $10 off full price day tickets (so $69 instead of $79) and your 11th day is free. Also new this year is a college season pass for $749 (normal price is $1600). Also, do not forget, we get lift tickets for $43 on race days (this was last years' price, it might go up a couple dollars).

All of the college products require your student ID and a printout of your registered classes from OASIS when you pick them up.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, LEAVE A COMMENT ON THE BLOG HERE, and WE WILL ANSWER THEM!!!

First Meeting & Dues

For those of you who haven't checked the calendar, we will be having our informational meeting outside of the Lyon Center on Tuesday 9/11 at 8pm. This is that meeting where we tell everyone what the team is all about, how much it will cost, and hand out all those fun waivers.

We met last night to get everything finalized for this season (as much as we can in September, anyways). Most of the meeting revolved around setting dues and pricing.

Team Dues will be $100 or $150 for racing (same as last year)

Housing Dues will be $325 ($25 increase)

Guest fees will stay at $25

Gas cards will stay at $15

June Team passes are $125 until 12/15

Mammoth Team passes are $750

here will also be a Mammoth college card for discount lift tickets this year. We will send out more info as soon as we get it.

We have been getting a lot of interest in the team this year, and we may have to actually cap membership. Because of that, we are going to allow early registration on the website. You can also add a shirt on when paying dues for an extra $10 (save $5) if you haven't already purchased one.

Another thing that came out of the meeting we had, is we wanted to make the team meetings a little more interactive to give everyone more of a reason to come. We will be doing a chain workshop within one of the meetings, but aside from that we don't have any ideas. If you have an idea for a meeting, post a comment or send an email. We are going to try to post at least one blog per week here to keep the website dynamic.

And now what you have all been waiting for: Pay Dues Online!

Ps. When you pay your dues, leave a comment on here saying why you are joining. Dress up in 80's (or older) ski gear and come watch old school ski & snowboard movies. Winter break in Mammoth is guaranteed to bring lots of snow, lots of antics and lots of fun.

There are people coming in and out of Mammoth all the time between now and January 7th. Check the carpool calendar at http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=skicarpools%40gmail.com. We work our hardest to make sure everyone gets up to the mountain when they want to.

In other good news, we are finally starting to get some snow, although it is still thin out there. We need one good dump to open the whole mountain. Forcasters are saying it could happen as early as next weekend!

Check out today's daily photo for some snow stoke:
http://media.mammothmountain.com/.../dailyviews_06_040.jpg

Free Merchandise

As a grand opening/holiday special we are offering a special deal in our new online store.
