14.5 Hrs later and we are here!!! Nationals: Day 0

After traveling all through the night and then renting the sickest soccer mom van in history and driving 4 more hours, we made it to our gloomy and desolate destination of Sunday River, Maine. Before checking into our hotel, we registered for our events and hit the Sunday River Brew Co. Over the next five days, we will be participating in several events that make up the Freestyle Overall Competition for USCSA Nationals. This year we brought 6 individuals to nationals, let’s meet the team!

Chris Nelson AKA Nelly:

This previously 195lb but now 168lb ‘biggest loser’ is the brains for our operation. He has the biggest mustache and the most personality in the league and will hopefully be leading us to victory over the week of competitions! Although, he won’t let us eat anywhere but vegan establishments we are stoked to have him here in Maine! Shout out to our Coach!!

Robby Thorpe:

Goofy footed, and pole-less, we hope Robby can score high in Pipe and slope-style throughout the week. Between listening to Celion Dion and perfecting his goggle tan, Robby is ready to wreck havoc on the competition.

Ben Gunton AKA Boozie:

Born with maple syrup in his veins, and hockey skates on his feet is our quote ‘friend of the north’. Though we don’t understand him half the time, we are super grateful for his appearance at this year’s national competition because of his fierce competitiveness in SkierX. Despite riding a horse powered buggy back home, I don’t think I’ve seen this Canadian lose a hole-shot all year! He is USC’s favorite for SkierX!

Caleb Farro:

After recovery from wrist and ACL surgery, Caleb is ready unleash in halfpipe and SkierX this year. Although people say he looks like me, his boosties in the pipe dwarf mine. Stoked to finally ski with my little bro, I can’t wait to see him shine under the lights tomorrow.

Matt Cook:

“Born a Cook,” as he frequently informs people, our freshman prodigy is magical in the pipe and slopestyle course! Hopefully he doesn’t party too hard because if he stays focus, he has the potential to stand tall on the podium. Between voice impersonations and slandering minorities, I’m really looking forward to my buddy shredding this week.

Me: Christopher Farro

After winning last year’s competition as underdogs against CU Boulder, rumor has it that they have us in their sights. This really excites me as it motivates me to progress my skiing. I also enjoy watching our league become more competitive each year and expect the level of skiing to be great. My strongest event is slopestyle, and with solid SkierX and halfpipe runs I have potential to score high in the overall.

This week’s schedule:

Tuesday: Halfpipe qualifications 9AM, Halfpipe finals under the lights at 7:30PM broadcasted live on USCSA.com. Check it out!

Wednesday: Slopestyle

Thursday: SkierX qualifiers

Friday: SkierX finals

Keep checking the website, as I’ll post frequent updates

Shootz,

Christopher Farro
