Ever since I got more than one GoPro HD camera, I have had 3D on the back of my mind. This edit is the most recent product of a culmination of weeks of trials and testing, rigging up camera systems, and figuring out software. It is by no means a final end product, but merely a view of the progress I’ve been making in working with 3D.
To view this edit properly, please use Red/Cyan anaglyph 3D glasses. You can purchase some from Amazon, or get some for Free
The edit was shot last weekend (February 20th) in one day and 14 runs at Mammoth Mountain. Two GoPro HD cameras were rigged parallel at the end of a ski pole hanging with GoPro handle-bar mounts. To splice the footage together in post-production, the 3D Glasses filter in After Effects was used. The footage was then all brought into Final Cut for editing. In After Effects, the convergence was keyframed throughout every clip to keep the focal point on the skier/subject since the GoPro naturally won’t focus on anything in particular.
I will be posting more about this process and adding pictures soon!

[..YouTube..] sooo sick. i loved when you follewed behind them and snow would shot towards me. great video.
Love it
[..YouTube..] i had a pair of 3d glasses right next to me, so i wore them lol. The edit is so sick, and the 3d glasses makes it twice as good.
[..YouTube..] I would like to put my own skiing videos to youtube, but I have no editing skills at all… And I have only something 10 megapixel digital camera, so I dont know how good the quoöity would be…
[..YouTube..] awe i dont got glasses :/ i faved it though when i get some ill watch this again
[..YouTube..] I used 3d glasses I got from the Avatar movie and it didn’t work.
[..YouTube..] they are polarized, not red/blue
Nice stuff! Your videos are always great to watch and now 3D! I could feel the snow hitting my face!
[..YouTube..] Great video, I would also like to see it in non 3d.
I just have some crappy 3d glasses but I got some kind of 3d effect
[..YouTube..] music was awesome
as for the skiing…. it was um
PHENOMENAL.
[..YouTube..] Yet another great video Abe! You’r the reason i bought my GoPro in the first place, love it!
But why did you have to use two cameras ? Did you put the two different shots into one or something?
Anyways, it was sick!
[..YouTube..] Good to hear! Yeah the way 3D works is just like the way your eyes work – you see the same thing from slightly different angles, thus you get the depth and 3D. Both images were combined together and when you wear red/blue glasses, the left eye only sees the left image, and the right eye only sees the right image.
[..YouTube..] beast, I went all around the house looking for 3d glasses I knew I had, and I found them.
Damn it, Abe. You’re too amazing. Please, sign my first born child.
ahhh, i wish i had a pair of 3D glasses! You are a editing genius.
[..YouTube..] still trying to find glasses- looks sick tho. What’s the name of the song?
[..YouTube..] now I’ve got 3d glasses. this is really amazing !!
[..YouTube..] what’s the song?
[..YouTube..] really? watch the movie, it’s at the end.
[..YouTube..] Hi… loved the vid. Was just wondering what editor you used to combine the two angles.
[..YouTube..] Frikkin awesome! I used a pair of CD jewel cases as red/cyan filters and they worked great. excellent #D imagery. Now I have to do this on my hang gliders!
[..YouTube..] After Effects
[..YouTube..] that was excellent – great job
On the search for #D glasses. Thanks for sharing, gotta try that on my windsurfer
[..YouTube..] You guys are wicked sick.. Let me know if u need a photog for a spread or photo opp
[..YouTube..] song? pleasee.. i tried using song i.d. and it didn’t identify the song, but the song is just so epic.
[..YouTube..] @laxattack1020
A clue : watch the video….
By the way, abe your videos are awesome.
[..YouTube..] @Patanch
what if i want it on my i pod though and i can’t find the song?
[..YouTube..] abekislevitz ur the bomb man. i do feel bad for u however tho that all these stupid retards cant notice that you kindly put all the music info at the end of the vid… what a shame. but u have great skils i just bought my 4th Go Pro about 4 days ago and they are the shit. i wuld love to run into you on the pow sometime!
[..YouTube..] This is awesome.
[..YouTube..] Cool!!
May I recommend the yt3d tag to allow the viewers to select viewing method.
[..YouTube..] I uploaded a private version with that. For some reason the aspect ratio isn’t right and also in After Effects I keyframed the convergence throughout, so the focus doesn’t line up with the yt3d tag unfortunately.
[..YouTube..] seriously?? the song is listed at the end of the video. As noted in previous comments!
[..YouTube..] how did you get the videos to be in 3d? i have a gopro and i know there isn’t a setting for that yet. is it a new editing software?
[..YouTube..] bossturbo.. ok, no need to get hasty bud.
[..YouTube..] requires two cameras
[..YouTube..] song?
[..YouTube..] at the end of the video
[..YouTube..] awesome idea. how do you put the two videos together??
[..YouTube..] so i’m thinking someone’s gonna start paying you to do this shit soon…congrats
[..YouTube..] you are amazing at editing and filming keep it up
[..YouTube..] awesome, just awesome
[..YouTube..] That was AMAZING
[..YouTube..] finally got some decent 3d glasses, superb. Good reason to buy another HD!!
[..YouTube..] what type of glasses does this work with
[..YouTube..] great idea. gopros are so cool. cant wait for some more pow!
[..YouTube..] So, you guy’s mounted two GoPro’s together. Clap boarded them. Then synced them and edited in Final Cut? I’ve been contemplating that method. Skydiving is the drug of choice. Although you are suppose to Jam Sync to achieve a 1/500th second sync for ultimate 3d.
[..YouTube..] INSANE, very well done!!
[..YouTube..] yeah song? i really like it!! sick edit btw
[..YouTube..] what song
[..YouTube..] wow 3D edits, holy fuck
