At the end of last year, GoPro came to us with a bit of news. First off, they said our videos were exactly the type of thing they wanted to show off what anyone can do with their little cameras; and second, that they were coming out with epic new HD cameras at the end of 2009 that would blow us away.
They asked the USC Ski & Snowboard team to aid them in creating an HD Promo video of skiing that they could use at trade shows, in press-releases etc. Where can we ski during the summer? Oregon! We met up at Timberline in July, grabbed some lift tickets courtesy of GoPro and went to town with the new cameras.
We had X-Games pipe skier Tucker Perkins to help us out with some tricks, along with Chris Farro, who lives a quick skip away from the mountain during the summer. I had just returned from a week trip up in Whistler at Camp of Champions for 4frnt Team week and had unfortunately suffered a pretty severe heel injury up there. I could ski down the hill but there were to be no epic jump follows. Either way, in a few short hours we got these shots and were absolutely blown away by the quality.
Fast forward to now and GoPro is filling orders and shipping these things like mad – demand is on an insane level. We’re stoked to be working with GoPro and appreciate all that they’ve done with us so far!

Though, the quality of the video is SO AWESOME !! If you want to use the camera inside, to film a birthday party as example, be sure that you are in a room with many lights. The quality will be much better

[..YouTube..] I have four and use them in FRICKIN’ HUGE Hawaii surf and they don’t leak at all ..EVER. The leash is a good idea though. I use custom made fishing leaders for a leash. Just make sure your O ring is clean and they work great. The image quality is incredible. No complaints at all with this invention in fact congratulations are in order to the Go Pro team for taking action point of view photography to it’s highest level yet! Thanks…Pete Hodgson

[..YouTube..] Aloha chamoruz. I did talk to someone who drown one at Pipe last week. The housings naturally seal up better under direct water pressures of just going under water but are most vulnerable in the whitewater. Even the pro water housings like SPL and Aqua Tech leak when things go wrong. I drown a new Canon last month. I’m no Go Pro dealer here just someone aware of the risk of taking a camera it the water and willing to pay the consequences. Get ready to buy a few if you want great results.

I can’t believe what these little buggers can take and still keep running. The best camera I have ever bought at this price after 25 years of shooting!
