PAY DUES HERE
*****THE MEETING THIS WEEK HAS BEEN CHANGED TO WEDNESDAY 9/19. Same time, same place*****
The deadline to pay dues will be the next team meeting, Wednesday 9/19. The meeting will be the same time 8pm, but inside the Cardinal room at the Lyon center.
After that meeting an additional late fee will be added to anyone who wants to join (before membership is capped). Please print out all the required forms, and bring them to the meeting with you. We will send out links to the USCSA form before the meeting. For those of you who ordered T-shirts with dues, we will bring the shirts to the meeting so you can pick them up at that time.
Team Summary:
We primarily to go skiing and snowboarding as much as possible while being students at USC. The team makes it easy to get out of Los Angeles and enjoy the outdoors and have as much fun as possible in the process.
By paying housing dues, you get access to a house in Mammoth any weekend, holiday or school break. Based on anticipated crowds, the team may book extra condos near the house to provide additional sleeping space – WE DO NOT RESTRICT THE AMOUNT OF TEAM MEMBERS GOING UP ANY WEEKEND. You can go up ANY weekend you want.
Because this is a team, we participate in competitions with other schools from around Southern California. Skiers and Snowboarders can compete in Giant Slalom, Boarder/Skiercross, Half-Pipe and Slopestyle competitions. Skiers may also compete in Slalom.
Competition is NOT REQUIRED, but we highly recommend it for everyone. It is a lot of fun, and is very relaxed. If you desire greater competition at a higher level, you can advance to regional and national competitions. Registering for competition is an extra $50, but it grants you entry in any race/competition you would like. You also receive a $15 gas card for each race weekend you participate in a competition.
Being a member on the team, you are eligible for all sorts of generous discounts. We get pro-deals, which allow you to purchase pretty much any gear for about half of retail price. We also get about half off lift tickets at Mammoth on race weekends, many of which are during holiday periods that normally have no discounts available. We also get discounts on season passes.
Logistics:
-Carpools
We get you to Mammoth the cheapest and best way possible. We will arrange carpools so you can go up WHENEVER you want, even if you don’t have a car. It is ~5 hour drive to Mammoth, so you will get to know the people in your carpool pretty well. So even if you come up not knowing anybody, by the time you make it to Mammoth, you will at least know the people you drove with.
-Sleeping
Our house is fairly large, and will comfortably sleep about 15 people. It is 4 bedrooms + loft, with a large common area downstairs. You should bring a sleeping bag when you come up. Air mattresses are also recommended, although by no means required. Beds are first-come, first-served, so the earlier you get up there, the more likely you will have prime sleeping arrangements.
- Passes/Skiing/Tickets
Mammoth tickets will be $79 per day this year. Yeah… it sucks. The good news is there are a lot of different options to avoid paying full price.
June mountain has a college season pass for $125. June is Mammoth’s sister mountain, and is about 20 minutes north of Mammoth. It doesn’t get quite as much snow, and it is significantly smaller than Mammoth, but it is NEVER CROWDED and has a sick terrain park. Last year, they only opened for about a week, and because of that, all the June passes were turned into Mammoth passes. There are almost always people from the team driving to June, or willing to go there. Mammoth tickets and passes are valid there.— www.junemountain.com
If you still want to ride Mammoth, there are options to avoid paying full price. New this year is a college frequency card. It is free, as long as you ‘buy’ it 3 days in advance on the Mammoth website. It will get you $10 off full price day tickets (so $69 instead of $79) and your 11th day is free. Also new this year is a college season pass for $749 (normal price is $1600). Also, do not forget, we get lift tickets for $43 on race days (this was last years’ price, it might go up a couple dollars).
All of the college products require your student ID and a printout of your registered classes from OASIS when you pick them up.
